Tom Stokes is the Layout Coordinator
Haltwhistle is our Branch’s oldest layout, having been started in 1981. It is modelled on a UK Yorkshire Dales scene, the station buildings being representative of the period from the 1930s. Originally it was constructed in a U–shape to fit in one of the station buildings on Meltham railway station on the Midland line, which we leased from WestRail.
Our new Clubrooms in Moojebing Street, Bayswater gave us the space to alter the layout to its present straight line form.
The layout is a two track mainline with a through station, Cumwaite Junction, which is the start of a single-track branch line to Haltwhistle station. The layout is DC and DCC compatible.
The Haltwhistle station is set on a higher level and has a single platform with a run-a-round loop and goods yard. Over time a ten-road fiddle yard, five up and five down, has been added to the rear of the layout.
The junction at Cumwaite Junction has been made fully operational, this enables trains to connect directly, in both directions, to the branch line from the main line. This allows Branch members the chance to try out their shunting skills picking up or dropping off wagons from freight trains in both directions.
Branch Members can choose to run our Branch’s locomotives and rolling stock or bring along their own.
